Recent Advances in Anesthesiology
The pregnant women happenstance in the obstetric area have little or nothing to do with the patients of previous decades. Nowadays, women are older, with multiple pregnancies due to spread of assisted reproduction techniques, with obesity (and thus its associated pathologies such as diabetes, preeclampsia and thromboembolism, among others).
Increase in immigration has surprised us with an increase in pathologies that used to be unusual in our environment. Therefore, the management of the obstetric patient is a challenge for the anesthesiologist, obliging professionals to continuously update their knowledge.
The authors believe that it is essential for all anesthesiologists to be aware of the latest advances and well-contrasted scientific evidence that will allow them to carry out their usual clinical activity. The main objective of “Recent Advances in Anesthesiology: Obstetric Anesthesia: Clinical Updates, Volume: 4“ is to develop a state of art and update the different aspects that are essential for the practice of anesthesia and analgesia during pregnancy, labor, cesarean section and puerperium. We have included the management of pregnant women with different pathologies and high-risk pregnancies.
The anesthesiologists who have contributed to the book “Recent Advances in Anesthesiology: Obstetric Anesthesia: Clinical Updates, Volume: 4“ are experts in obstetric anesthesia, with extensive experience in this area. We intended to explain in a clear and didactic way the topics addressed for the use of all professionals involved in this field.
The editors would like to thank the coauthors for their efforts and enthusiastic collaboration. We are convinced that the chapters have reached the desired quality. We believe, without a doubt, that the effort has been worthwhile.
